Choose Your Next Thought.
Joe Poduslenko great friend and host of The Post Game Podcast recently sent me this Meat Mafia Podcast with Jen Gottlieb. Shout out to Joe for sending this gem over. It gets me hyped when people discover a “Deposit” and send it my way! If you ever find something about making Daily Deposits you already know what to do!
Jen Gottlieb shared these incredible lessons.
Choosing your next thought.
Move your body to move your thoughts.
Your year is dictated by what you choose to do day-to-day.
First, was the “Choose Again Method” by Gabby Bernstein. Many times we can’t choose our first thought. We think we can 100% control our thoughts but negativity, self-criticism, judgment, or second-guessing ourselves start to pop up in high-stress situations. It is not necessarily realistic to HAVE ZERO BAD THOUGHTS for the rest of your life, we are human. The goal is to have a better next thought and become more optimistic. Through repetition and intentional practice, we raise our baseline level of optimism.
Everyone has those moments when bad thoughts pop up, high performers control their next thoughts and the narrative of the story they tell themselves. Jen explained the power of acknowledging “Hey what’s up bad thought, I see you, hmmm okay what am I going to do next.” Then take action to intentionally have a better thought moving forward.
The second lesson is when we get into deposits. If she feels stuck in her thoughts and can’t change them she takes action in another way. Moving will move your thoughts. By training, lifting, walking, running, you name it, shifting your physical state will shift your mental state.
“Your year is dictated by what you choose to do day to day… Put those deposits into your subconscious and identity. Wake up and do the uncomfortable thing. Move through it and prove who we are.”
You can improve your thoughts by moving your body and investing in your physical health. Those day-to-day deposits start to add up. At first, they may feel hard or even impossible but consistent intentional action starts to change your identity. You become more of the type of person who can do hard things and before you know it those actions turn into just who you are.
Feels Hard → Take Action → Becomes A Habit → Cemented Into A Non-Negotiable
