What Do All Fools Have In Common? (021)

They are always getting ready to live.

What Do All Fools Have In Common?

What’s up, everyone? Today is a lesson from one of my all-time favorite writers, Ryan Holiday. He shared this question, what do all fools have in common?

According to the Stoics, all fools have one thing in common.

What they all have in common, Seneca says, is that they’re always getting ready to start.

They’re always delaying to live.

Because they think they have the future. They think that they have forever.

They say “I’m not ready.” They say “I’m going to do it after.” “I’ll do it when this thing happens.” “I’ll do it when conditions are more favorable.”

A lesson shared by Ryan Holiday writer, creator of The Daily Stoic/The Daily Dad, and the one who inspired me the most to create The Daily Deposit newsletter project.

I love his writing because not much is needed to add or say. It is concise and packs a powerful punch full of meaning. James Clear shared a similar idea, the important distinction between action and motion.

Motion feels like progress. Action is progress.

Action: Delivers an outcome.

Motion: Planning, strategizing, and learning. Those are all good things, but they don’t produce results

Now that you have a perspective shift and a software update from Seneca, Ryan Holiday, and James Clear there is only one thing to do. One thing that you and I can both do together. TAKE ACTION!

  • What are you avoiding?

  • What have you been planning for a while?

  • How much farther have you gotten with those plans this past week?

  • What do you gain by waiting?

What is your response? What action WILL you take right now? What daily deposit will you start today? Starting today is the first step in starting momentum in the right direction. Starting a streak of deposits towards the person you wish to become. The person you want to be! It won’t be easy but it is 100% possible. Don’t delay your progress, take action on your daily deposits.

Thank you so much for the continued support of the Daily Deposit newsletter and for supporting the 21st drop of the series! If you are interested in learning more make sure you subscribe and check out my podcast on Spotify & Apply Podcasts.
