Missing One Day Won’t Ruin Everything. (024)

Missing One Day Won’t Ruin Everything.

When was the last time you reached perfection?

hmmmmmm… Yeah me neither.

Why does missing one day not ruin everything?

Your habits don’t disappear… Instead of thinking Kobe, Messi, or Tom Brady is perfect, we need to zoom out.

The stack of daily deposits, the process of becoming more of the type of person you wish to become, and those actions/habits you have built up don’t all of sudden disappear after one miss. The key there is one miss. The biggest repetition for your identity is getting back on track, it is starting another streak, and building more momentum in the direction you want to go after that one miss.

It’s all about not having 2 in a row in the wrong direction.

Thinking more long term… Over 10 years of taking action 1 miss here and 1 miss there doesn’t drastically ruin everything if you can get back on track after one miss. I mean if we are alternating miss, action, miss, action and you go 50/50 for the rest of the year that’s a different story and we have talking we need to do. Missing one day won’t ruin everything and consistent intentional Daily Deposits can change your life.

James Clear’s Newsletter Wisdom… I refer to this often when I miss a day of training, writing, or podcasting and need a reminder that I didn’t lose everything. https://jamesclear.com/second-mistake

What separates the elite performers from everyone else? Not perfection, but consistency. This is why the most important thing is not to prevent mistakes altogether, but to avoid making a mistake twice in a row. Errors are part of the process, but they shouldn’t become part of the pattern.

One mistake is just an outlier. Two mistakes is the beginning of a pattern. Killing this pattern before it snowballs into something bigger is one reason why learning how to get back on track quickly is an essential skill for building good habits.
