One Workout = One Less Day In The Hospital. (025)

You can detect that the man is in control of his life.

What would you trade for one less day in the hospital?

What if working out for one hour meant one less day in the hospital at the end of your life? Would you train every day?

Ed Thorp… He went from counting cards in Las Vegas and in the 1960s to Wall Street. On Wall Street, he created the first quantitative hedge fund, became highly successful, had great relationships with his family, invested in his health, and more.

Founders Podcast… Host David Senra has an incredible episode diving into his autobiography A Man For All Markets. One of my favorite parts that David Senra highlights is Ed Thorp’s ability to not lose himself in the never-ending pursuit of “enough”. To be extremely high achieving without losing his health and relationships with the people who mean the most to him.

Ed Thorp Defined His Daily Deposit…  One hour spent on fitness as one day less in a hospital is an incredible definition of a Daily Deposit. That definition shifts your perspective. It is the small investment now that may seem small but adds up over the long term. Trading time now for a greater return in the future. Imagine if you knew at the end of your life you would have to spend 365 full days in hospital before your final day. If that set time in the hospital was guaranteed and you could reduce that time by training 1 hour today you would be all over it.

Those daily deposits of investing in your health & performance start to compound over the long term. 1 hour a day is 365 hours a year and 3650 hours in a decade. The best part is yes Daily Deposits will improve your health and potentially be one less day in the hospital but just as important with great health you create better relationships with the people you want to be around. You can connect with your loved ones on a deeper level when maximizing your health.

More Wisdom… David Senra shared these two other bits that I had to share with you. Highly recommend you check out the podcast episode here.

  • True success is exiting some rat race to modulate one’s activities for peace of mind. Thorp certainly learned a lesson. You can detect that the man is in control of his life.

  • What really matters in life isn’t how much money you make or the things you have. It is who you spend your time with and who you are close to. Family, spouse, good friends. Life is really about spending time well.
